Imran, Sohail and Sangakkara combine to thrash Gladiators
Sharjah March 3: Multan Sultans bowlers and batsmen combined to thrash Quetta Gladiators by a whopping nine wicket margin in the 13th match of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 edition.
After being sent in on a seemingly batting friendly Sharjah Cricket Stadium pitch the Gladiators were sent packing by the combined bowling efforts of the Sultans’ attack led by Man-of-the-Match Sohail Tanvir.
Tanvir sent Umar Amin back to the dugout for 8 runs after a 27 run opening partnership between the left-hander and Shane Watson.
Newcomer to the Gladiators eleven Rameez Raja Jr. was bowled by Junaid Khan for 1.
Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed anchored one end with a 30 run innings but Gladiators lost their way in the middle stages as Tanvir and Hat-Trick hero Imran Tahir bamboozled the opponent’s batsmen.
From 101 for five, the Gladiators were blown away for 102 all out in the 16th over of the innings.
Tahir dismissed Hassan Khan, John Hastings and last man Rahat Ali on three successive deliveries to bring to an end Gladiators innings.
Tahir’s Hat-Trick was the second such feat in this year’s PSL by a Sultans bowler following the feat by Junaid earlier in the tournament.
In reply, an unbeaten 51 by veteran opener and leading scorer of the ongoing edition Kumar Sangakkara ensured a comfortable win for Sultans.
Sangakkara added 66 for the opening wicket partnership with Ahmed Shehzad who scored 27 runs while Sohaib Maqsood scored a brisk undefeated 26 as Sultans waltzed past the target in just 16.4 overs.
The win took Sultans to seven points from five games and the second spot in the PSL points table behind leaders Karachi Kings who also have seven points but have both a game to spare and a better net run-rate at this juncture.
