Karachi Kings score much needed win to bolster top two finish chances
Dubai March 10: An explosive batting performance led by Joe Denly’s 78 helped Karachi Kings record an impressive win against Multan Sultans in the 22nd match of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 season.
Denly laid the foundations of the highest team total of the season as the Kings made full use of a batting friendly Dubai pitch by posting a 188 run total for the loss of three wickets.
The opener received great support from Babar Azam who posted his second successive half-century in the tournament as Kings took 124 runs off the last 10 overs of their innings.
Colin Ingram than took the long handle as Kings shifted the momentum in the end overs to post the highest team score of the tournament to date.
Ingram struck four sixes in his eight ball innings that took the Kings side to their match winning score.
Sultans started their chase on a positive note as Kumar Sangakkara and Ahmed Shehzad took the attack to the Kings opening bowlers.
Sangakkara scored 18 while Shehzad chipped in with 24 before falling to Imad Wasim.
Man-of-the-Match Shahid Afridi than took center stage as the star all-rounder dismissed Kieron Pollard, Saif Badar and Shoaib Malik to break the back of the Sultans’ chase.
Irfan Junior took two wickets to support Afridi’s endeavours with the ball.
Late-order batsman Sohail Tanvir scored 34 not out to ensure that his team get past the 100 run mark.
Sultans were dismissed for 125 to hand a comfortable 63 run win and the second spot in the points table, while the Sultans have now been forced to slide down to the third spot with only a game in hand.
