Kamran Akmal’s sensational century takes Zalmi through to HBL PSL Play-offs
SHARJAH March 16: A historic century by Kamran Akmal took defending champions Peshawar Zalmi to the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 Play-Offs as Lahore Qalandars suffered a seven wickets defeat at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Kamran, adjudged the Man-of-the-Match, scored his second HBL PSL century becoming the first batsman to score two hundreds in tournament’s history.
Zalmi chasing 173 in what was a must win game for the defending champions romped home through Kamran’s 107 run unbeaten masterclass that came off a mere 61 balls and included seven sixes and as many as 11 fours.
Kamran added 87 runs in a match winning alliance with Mohammad Hafeez who scored 27 runs, the right-hander anchored one end as Kamran blazed away from the other.
The chase was duly completed in the 18th over, Zalmi by virtue of their win leapfrogged to the second spot, they will maintain their standing if Karachi Kings lose their last group game to Islamabad.
Earlier, a blazing 42 ball 70 from opener Anton Devcich helped Qalandars post a hugely competitive 172 run total for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Devcich struck of a series of big sides towards the mid-wicket fence including a shot off Sameen Gul that cleared the stadium.
Fakhar Zaman his opening partner was dismissed by Hasan Ali for six runs while McCullum was sent packing by Sameen after a seven run contribution.
Devcich added 55 runs for the third wicket with Agha Salman who scored 28 off 25 balls with the help of two sixes.
Wicket-Keeper batsman Gulraiz Sadaf and big-hitter Sohail Akhtar than used the long handle effectively in the death overs in their unbroken 53 run partnership off 31 balls.
Gulraiz scored 26 off 21 balls while Sohail dazzled with a 16 ball 30 that included two sixes and there fours.
Hasan took two wickets conceding a mere 24 runs in his four overs, Wahab Riaz and Sameen took a wicket each.
